Start Blogging Today

Stop stalling and start a blog today. Earn money writing about your passion.

Stop procrastinating and Start Blogging.

So, I started a blog. Finally. Now I’m begging you; don’t be like me and wait eight years to fulfill your dreams. Take the leap faith and make money writing about something you love today.

This post contains affiliate links.  If you make a purchase using these links I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. Thank you for supporting this little project of mine.

I’ve been into blogs since 2009 when I discovered couponing. Back then I didn’t realize any other type of blog existed. “Of course, a running a coupon blog would be perfect for me.” I thought.  I taught a few classes on couponing to see if I could be good at it. “Yep. I can do this.”

I later decided that couponing was stealing time from my family; so to start spending MORE time on it was a no go.

Next, I discovered hair/beauty blogs and I was going to combine my passion for saving money with my love for finding deals on hair products. That never panned out. Then one day I met Pinterest and she introduced me to Live Love DIY. I read that entire blog in a day. Yes. ALL of it! I was hooked and covered in paint by the next week.

My house has seen project after project for the past three years and I am insanely in love with this little shack of mine because of it. I teetered on creating a DIY blog on an off for about two years now.

Take the leap faith and make money writing about something you love.Tweet This!

What I didn’t know back then was that people were making money from their blogs! A LOT of money. And those couponing blogs…oh they were making a killing off of me. It was a win-win situation. I loved reading them and scoring deals, they made a profit off of my need to save money.

Since starting mydesignrules.com I have the freedom to create my own schedule, produce projects, tell you all about them and make a little cash on the side. Win for all of us. It was a leap of faith, but it’s so rewarding. Don’t get me wrong, blogging is work, but I love what I’m writing about and making new friends in the process.

You can set your blog in three easy steps.

    1. Pick a domain name. Do a little research and find something totally wonderful and cross your fingers it’s not taken.
    2. Find a host. I use Siteground I’m no expert, but I love that it’s affordable and the basic package comes with five email address so you don’t have to use a free .com email address.
    3. Install WordPress on your blog. WordPress is a free website platform that’s easy to learn. You’ll be able to set up your entire site without any web building skills. (though it helps to have some).
    4. Once you install WordPress, choose a basic theme (there are plenty of free ones out there to get your feet wet) But if you want something amazing you will have to purchase one. My favorite two sites are Hello You Designs.com and StudioMommy.com

The next gajillion steps?

Stop reading all those articles on blogging and just get started. I highly recommend the Blog By Numbers ebook from Startamomblog.com. it’s a step-by-step plan on how she grew her blog from $0-$17,000 PER MONTH within a year.  (If you’re not a mom, that’s OK. This is still a great place to begin.) Trust me. it’s well worth the investment. Now $17,000 a month is a LOT of money and realistically, that’s not the norm. Blogging takes hard work and dedication, but you can do this.

Now get to it!
